The new year is the time for a fresh start. New beginnings, new habits, new everything! We are especially excited this time of year when major painting manufacturers announce their carefully chosen Color of the Year (“COTY”) bringing fresh inspiration to those looking to liven up their homes with new hues and coordinating color palettes. The 2020 color collections effuse the feeling of spring with tones ranging from sweet pinks to rich blues and lots of great neutrals to pair them with. This year’s colors play well with a variety of accent colors, metal finishes, wood tones and design styles. The versatility of these colors makes it easy to infuse the essence of the 2020 COTY collections in your home to achieve an inspired look for the year ahead.
Color #1: Navy
The first color of 2020 you’ll want to add a fresh coat to your walls is Naval SW6244 by Sherwin Williams! We love how this rich shade of blue creates a calm and grounding presence to your home while also adding a subtle hint of confidence. Navy is extremely versatile when it comes to pairing it with other color schemes. For example, it pairs well with most metal finishes, but using a metallic gold color throughout the room will add an elevated elegance in a space. Another example is to incorporate different hues of green, which will give your room a calm, tranquil feel.

Color #2: Light Pink
What better way to brighten up a room than by selecting a classy shade of light pink such as Romance HGSW2067 by Sherwin Williams or First Light 2102-70 by Benjamin Moore? Opting for either of these great pink tones opens a room up to endless possibilities when it comes to decor color schemes. A neutral light pink pairs flawlessly with shades of light gray, deep burgundy, navy, metallic gold, white or any other neutral shade. Depending on what look you are going for, this flattering pink shade is sure to be the perfect start to the room of your dreams!
Color #3: Khaki
Khaki is back and it’s going to be more popular than ever in 2020. Both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore featured hues of this classic neutral. Vanillin SW6371 featured in the Sherwin Williams’ 2020 Collection and Golden Straw 2152-50 from Benjamin Moore are great khaki options. This color pairs well with varying shades of brown ranging from lighter tans to deeper chocolate tones to create a mellow and relaxed environment. Another option to consider is pairing it with white and various shades of gray. This will add both contrast and cohesion throughout a space. For bolder pairing alternatives we love khaki with navy, sage, and light blue. Whatever your style preference, Khaki is a great universal color that complements them all.

Color #4: - Taupe
Another classic neutral featured in the 2020 COTY Collections is light taupe. Some fresh new shades in this color include Sherwin Williams’ Gristmill Greige HGSW2485 and Benjamin Moore’s Thunder AF-685. These taupe shades pair well with a range of colors including Sherwin Williams’ Vanillin, featured above. It can also be paired beautifully with black, white and yellow to keep a room neutral, but with high contrast. Another lively yet subtle way to add color would be using taupe, dark brown and orange together. Regardless of the direction you want to go, taupe is the perfect neutral starting ground. Selecting a shade like this allows you to make as many changes as you want now or later!
Color #5: Sage
Sage is the perfect color to add throughout your home. This color is very versatile and a great alternative to a beige neutral. This muted earth-toned color invokes comfort and warmth into any room. Sherwin Williams’ Kale Green SW6460 and Benjamin Moore’s Cushing Green HC- 125 are both dark and saturated shades. If you prefer a muted tone try Benjamin Moore’s Crystalline AF-485, a lighter sage tone that acts as the perfect neutral. We love this color paired with white, tan and pops of orange to create a mellow, yet happy feel to a room. The organic tones of the green, white and tan will calm you while the warm orange tones will make you feel invigorated and inspired! Some other colors that pair well with sage include pale pinks, tan neutrals, grays, and muted blues.
